English Board
So, in an effort to get this English Board off the ground, I'm trying to think of things that can be discussed that are the same in any language. Shaving came to mind, being that I love wetshaving.
Here is a link to my wetshaving wiki over at badgerandblade.com. If you ever find yourself interested in wetshaving, that site has a lot of useful info and people. Another good place is reddit.com/r/wicked_edge. Of course, if there is anything that you might wish to ask me, I can help out too.
I learned about wetshaving in an effort to reduce ingrown hairs I suffered from while using 5 blade razors and such that are on the market these days. And it has changed my life forever. With the proper tools, preparation, and technique, shaving has become enjoyable instead of a chore with bad results.
I might be a little different than most people who are looking into this for performance results only. That's how I started, but I fell in love with double edge razors, so I started collecting them, as well as brushes and other items. I have this tendency to want to try and own everything I like.
So what about you? How do you shave? Do you like it? Have you ever thought about changing it if not? Do you already wetshave?
You don't use soap or gel or anything else? What kind of razor? And how well does that work for you?
I came across badger and blade from a thread on Geekhack a little while ago. I treated myself to a few little items. I love the shaving soap and the brush - especially the warmth. I don't get on with the Merkur 27 (I think). Works much better than a gillette if I haven't shaved for a few days, but I wonder if there's something wrong with technique - most likely the angle of the blade against my face.
Would be nice to see the collection.
Hi there, I just use a razor without anything but usually shave after washing my face so there is some moisture. I think it's pretty common among Asians to not need any sort of cream or aftershave as there isn't much facial hair to be shaved. I am Asian and I don't have any friends who use shaving cream (maybe there is one or two exceptions) etc.
I actually don't go with warm water for shaving anymore. I've found that cold or cooler water works best for me.
hoggy: it might not be the razor but the blade. Have you tested other blades? Everyone is different when it comes to them so you have to test and search for one that works for you. That's not to say that that razor is good, but the blade might be the culprit.
LW: That's interesting. Might some other members corroborate on that being that case? I would feel lucky if I could get away with that!
I work at the Silicon Valley of Shavers, Philips CL Drachten, in the Netherlands, where we develop all electric shavers available @ the Philips portfolio. Here we also produce the High end models (3D, etc...).
You should guys try a good electric shaver...u will forget the classic razors. Promised.
A couple pictures of some of my shaving razors and other equipment. I need to take some updated photos soon.
